2018 Cannabis Festivals: 5 Must Attend Events
Summer is finally here, and you know what that means: it’s time to hit up your favorite smoke shop, pack up your various bowls and pipes, your glass bubbler, your “wake and bake” coffee mug, and toss ’em in the car. You’re ready to get the hell out of Dodge for some well-deserved vacation time. Instead of heading to the beach or the mountains or the music festival this year, though, you might want to take a look at attending one of the outstanding cannabis festivals that are running this year.
Summer and early fall are peak times for well-established marijuana festivals in this country and abroad, and what better way to kick off your R&R time by hanging with some like-minded enthusiasts in a cool locale? There are lots to choose from in the United States, and if you want to be a little more adventurous, well, there are options in Europe, too. Let’s face it: you’ve always wanted to go to Amsterdam, right? Why not make 2018 the year?

The following is a list of 5 of the best cannabis festivals for your consideration. Web sites are included for the festivals, and it’s always a good idea to check out the various info about the festivals in advance. Some of the festivals include competitions, and for the entrepreneur, they offer great opportunities to demo your products. Most festivals usually include live music, panel discussions, expect speakers, food trucks, and oh yes: merch. Tons of merch. Dates Held: July 13-15
Venue: Melkweg–Lijnbaansgracht 234A, 1017 PH Amsterdam, Netherlands
Cost: 70.00 euro for a single day pass; 200.00 euro for a weekend pass
What to Expect: The High Times Cannabis Cup is one of the leading marijuana trade shows, celebrating the world of through competitions, instructional seminars, expositions, celebrity appearances, concerts, and product showcases. Musical acts for Amsterdam 2018 are yet to be announced, but the website is updated frequently. Exhibitors, podcasts, and one of the most prestigious cannabis competitions in the world, culminating with the awarding of the specially-designed “Cannabis Cup” trophy at festival’s end.
Event #2: Chalice Festival, California (chalicecalifornia.com)
Dates Held: July 13-15th
Venue: San Bernardino County Fairgrounds, 14800 7th St., Victorville, CA 92395
Cost: $105 Friday, Sunday, $115 Saturday; 3-day pass $165
What to Expect: Chalice California is the “World’s Largest Glass Music and Art Festival,” attracting over 35,000 attendees in 2017. A healthy line-up of popular musical performers are scheduled, including Bassnectar, Ludacris, Sizzla Kalonji, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, and many more. Great opportunity to meet and compete, with numerous vendors and exhibitions.
Quick heads-up: heat indexes can get pretty high in July in Victorville, so make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and protective clothing.
Event#3: CannaCon Boston (cannacom.org)
Dates Held: July 27-28
Venue: Hynes Convention Center, 900 Boylston St., Boston, MA 02115
Cost: 1-day Expo, $70. 1-day Expo and Seminar, $175. 2-day Expo, $120. 2-day Expo and Seminar, $275
What to Expect: For the businessman/entrepreneur, CannaCon is one of the industry’s most important events of the year. Dozens of seminars and lectures from world-class speakers, over 150 exhibits, numerous opportunities for networking and increasing business visibility. All located in Boston’s vibrant Back Bay Neighborhood, within walking distance of many great restaurants and historic city attractions.
Event#4: Seattle Hempfest Festival (hempfest.org)
Dates Held: August 17-19
Venue: Centennial, Myrtle Edwards, Olympic Sculpture Parks, 300 3rd Ave West, Seattle, WA 98119
Age: All ages
Cost: $10 suggested donation
What to Expect: Seattle’s Hempfest is the largest cannabis policy reform event in the world. For the activist at heart, this “Protestival” is the flagship event for serious discussions about the future of cannabis legislation. It’s also a fairly raucous open-air, free speech event with hundreds of vendors and many musical performances. Located on the waterfront, Seattle’s Hempfest offers lots of local color and personality while providing the opportunity to throw your fist in the air for responsible cannabis reform.
Event#5: The Great Midwest Marijuana Harvest Festival (cannabisharvestfest.com)
Dates Held: September 29-October 1
Venue: Various, including The Frequency (121 W. Main St.), and the Library Mall (700 State St), Madison, WI 53703
Age: All ages, 21+ for performances in clubs
Cost: Varies by event; many free, or suggested donation.
What to Expect: The Great Midwest Marijuana Harvest Festival is the longest running marijuana festival in the USA. Now in its 47th year, the festival features lively political seminars and discussions along with vendors, exhibits, and dozens of regional musical artists. Madison, Wisconsin has always been rated as one of America’s greatest “College Towns,” but it’s also earned its reputation as one of the most progressive and tolerant cities in the country.
Event#6: Blazers Cup (https://blazerscup.com/)
Dates Held: TBD
Venue: 689 South E Street, San Berardino, CA 92408
Cost: Varies. Options include single-day general admission, two-day general admission, single-day or two-day VIP entrance (includes access to VIP cabana, VIP section for concert, VIP souvenir event bag with limited-edition Blazers Cup shirt included)
What to Expect: The better question is what NOT to expect because Blazers Cup has it all – not that you’d expect any less from an event hosted by the grandfather of , Tommy Chong. There competition section offers an incredible array of categories, awarding prizes for Best Flower, Best Vape, Highest Product, and Highest product. There’s incredible live performances from the hottest artists around (last year’s line-up featured Game, B Real, and Berner, among others), posh VIP amenities, endless food and drink options, and even a pro-paraphernalia stance:

How awesome is that? Not only can you sample an insane array of strains, but you’re actively encouraged to do so using your favorite bubblers, chillums, glass pipes, color-changing bowls, and vaporizers. It doesn’t get much better. Throw in copious amounts of merch, event t-shirts and California sun and you’ve got a recipe for a weekend you won’t soon forget.
Huge bonus: San Bernardino Medical will be on site so you can even get a recreational marijuana card at the event.
